Chinese New Year Mid

This playground is suitable for younger students, aged 8 – 11 years. It contains a variety of games, puzzles, stories, and activities based on Chinese New Year and gives a general overlook of the festival. One hot tip for this playground is: Don’t be rude, listen to your friends (all the children throughout the playground will tell you information and give you instructions.) You and your student begin in the classroom at the end of the day with the homework written on the blackboard, “Get ready for the Lantern Festival”. You can stop and play a while in the school playground, maybe a game of Chinese Checkers, or just a Sudoku puzzle. On the way home, you visit a market and look at some Chinese good luck symbols. While you’re at home decorating the living room, the phone rings. Grandma would like you to help her with the food for a family meal. However, before you leave, you need to put on some red clothes to scare off Nian, and before you get to Grandma’s house, you can read the legend of Nian. Once you get to Grandma’s, you help sort out some food whilst chatting about the symbolism of each food. And then peek in some red envelopes to see how much money your cousins are getting. In Grandma’s garden, you can hang a wish on the tree before strolling to the pagoda where you can read about the Jade Emperor and the animal’s race. There are 3 activities based on the story: a comprehension exercise to order the animals, a matching ordinal numbers to words exercise and a closer look at the animal zodiac years. Finally, as you make your way through the darkened streets to the Lantern Festival, you solve some riddles (a traditional activity at this time of year). In the final scene, the street is decorated with lanterns, fireworks erupt in the distance, a dragon dances merrily and you can celebrate the festival. The video is of the younger playground but the screenshots show the activities.
