This Koala Go template provides a framework to teach closed syllables and 15 common welded sounds. The booklet, “Closed Syllables: Short Vowels,” written and illustrated by Leanne Klinkenberg, is included on the whiteboards as a slide show and in the playground treehouse. Blank template pages for phonics spelling rules and syllable types contain images and graphics compatible with Orton-Gillingham-based programs like the Barton Reading & Spelling System™.*** The Koala Playground space includes a school, library, school playground, picnic area, garden maze, sight word grove, review road, and treehouse. The school has a set of 31 letter tiles, 15 welded tiles and designated boards for spelling words, phrases, and sentences. It also has lined pages for handwriting practice. The library includes a phrase corner and a wall for reading sentences. The sight word grove has a path through the trees with a secret exit. The maze, school playground, and picnic areas include prebuilt CVCC tile templates for adding your own content. The school playground includes a board for reading words, and the review road has spelling rule sign posts stationed around it. The treehouse has flex space for a variety of activities and a story corner.
