This template is designed to teach open syllables and eight basic vowel teams. The booklet, “Open Syllables: Long Vowels,” written and illustrated by Leanne Klinkenberg, is included on the whiteboard slides and in the playground. The whiteboards also contain customizable letter tiles, review tools, and a game. Template pages for phonics spelling rules and syllable types are included and contain images and graphics compatible with Orton-Gillingham programs like the Barton Reading & Spelling System. You must provide your own instructional content. Susan Barton, author of the Barton Reading & Spelling System, has reviewed and approved this template for copyright compliance. NO Barton copyrighted curriculum content is included. The Koala Playground includes a school, library, school playground, picnic area, garden maze, sight word grove, tree house and schwa pavilion on the ground level. The library includes walls for reading phrases and sentences. The sight word grove has a vault for mastered words and a path through the trees with a secret exit. The treehouse contains a spelling rule image library and the Open Syllable booklet. The subterranean level includes a spelling rule review road and the Rainbow Road game. There is a NEW sea floor level below the subterranean level that includes a cave. The sea floor level has review activities that are compatible with Barton Level 4, including a scavenger hunt, build-a-word, and a schwa word sort. All three levels have sets of 31 letter tiles, 15 welded tiles, and 8 basic vowel teams. Use this Koala Go classroom template to build and save individual lessons as your master templates, which you can then copy for each new student. TEACHER TIP: To maximize workflow during a session, complete reading tasks in the playground and spelling tasks on the whiteboards. Toggling between the two spaces at regular intervals as you switch between reading and spelling practice keeps the lesson moving without time for students to grow bored in either space.
